Stros sweep A’s

Athletics prepare for Red Sox series

The Houston Astros (71-62, 2nd AL West) took care of home field, sweeping the Oakland Athletics (57-76, 5th AL West) by a combined score of 13 -4.  Last night, the A’s took an early 3-1 lead into the 8th inning when both George Springer and Jose Altuve slammed triples to close the game out for the Astros 4-3 .

The A’s Ross Detwiler went seven innings giving up only three hits and one run in that time.

Athletics 2“Ross was dominant out there today,” Oakland reliever Liam Hendriks said. “He did a really good job of keeping them off balance, and he did a really good job of spotting up his fastball. It’s a shame that we weren’t able to pull this one off for him.”

The A’s have little time to contemplate their road trip as they begin a three game home stand tomorrow evening against the Boston Red Sox. Taking the mound for the A’s will be Andrew Trigg (1-1. 4.39 ERA) while the Sox will send out LHP David Price (13-8, 3.97 ERA) to start the game.

Tickets for the series as well as the Angels series following are still available.  Be sure to grab yours today and help cheer on your Oakland A’s!

Now it’s time to get serious.  If the A’s are going to make a push into a playoff start, it has to begin tonight and it has to begin against this Blue Jays team.  It can be done.  The A’s did it already in April with an 8-5 win but, these two teams have reversed fortunes.  The A’s were in the midst of a six game winning streak and the Jays were out of the gate at 8-10.

“I feel that the best of this team is yet to come,” As third baseman Danny Valencia said. “We haven’t played our best baseball yet.”

“I think we have a chance to be a lot better in the second half,” Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. “We have guys back now as far as health goes. If we can stay healthy, we have the potential to have a lot better half than we had in the first half.”

Starting on the mound for the A’s tonight will be Daniel Mengden (1-4, 4.54 ERA) who is getting the nod over SP Rich Hill who is nursing a blister on his finger.  The Jays will put out Marcus Stroman (7-4, 4.89 ERA) who has allowed only three runs over the past 14 2/3 innings.

Ticket for the entire series are still on sale so be sure to grab yours and get out and help your Oakland Athletics to a second half run!

A’s edge Brewers 5-3

The dry spell your Oakland Athletics had been suffering through ended yesterday as bats came alive for  Marcus Semiem, who had gone through a rough 0-15 stretch, but managed a two run triple in last nights victory.

“Early on, it felt like part of the last few days,” (no offense) A’s manager Bob Melvin said. “Then all of a sudden, toward the end of the game where it was on the line, our at-bats were a lot more intense, a lot more focused it seemed like, and we got some big hits, certainly from Marcus.”

The rubber game kicks off at 2:35 pm this afternoon.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to get yours today and cheer on your Athletics before they hit the road again.

High hopes on the horizon for Athletics

The Oakland Athletics had a disappointing 2015 marred by injuries and a weak bullpen but management put in the work and made changes over the winter, trading with the Blue Jays in late November for the Australian Baseball Player of the Year, Liam Hendriks, in exchange for Jesse Chavez.  In the off season, the Athletics took to the pen and inked Ryan Madison and John Axford with Sean Doolittle anchoring the bullpen.

Other trades included reacquiring Jed Lowrie and trading for Yonder Alonso.  The health of Coco Crisp will also play a factor in the season.  Last year, Crisp played in only 44 games and management are hoping to get more out of him this season, especially since they are paying him $11 million this season.

Upcoming Spring Training games include outings against the Cubs, the Diamondbacks and the Giants.  Plenty of great seats and affordable tickets are still available so be sure to secure yours and cheer on your Oakland Athletics.
